TRAILS WEST -- MARKERS OF THE CALIFORNIA TRAIL

Dave Hollecher spent many hours working with great ingenuity to solve our problem of moving our heavy markers.  His experiments resulted in a 2-piece device each consisting of 2-swiveling wheels mounted on a support platform which the marker is strapped onto.  Once strapped on, one or more persons can pull the marker while one or more people help steer it.  That is Dave next to Carrie Smith pulling the marker while Don Enneking steers it.  This method of moving a marker works well when the surface is fairly smooth.  Photo by Richard Hallford taken on the Truckee Trail.
