A TRAILS WEST MARKER

TRAILS WEST --
MARKERS OF THE CALIFORNIA TRAIL

"HAULING A MARKER ON A 2-WHEEL
HAND CART"

Use of a handcart has also been tried as shown in the photo above.  This is an awkward method even when the handcart has large tires like the one shown in the photo and the surface is reasonably smooth.  One person must balance the marker on the cart while walking backwards. Other people must help by pulling the cart along.  If the surface is rough, this method does not work well as the marker bounces and moves around,  It sometimes falls off the cart even when strapped down.  We tried this method once but probably will not use it again.  Photo by Richard Hallford taken along the Truckee Trail.
