A GUIDE TO THE NOBLES TRAIL
In 1852, William Nobles opened a route from the Applegate Trail near Rabbithole Spring to the City of Shasta west of Redding, California. That route became known as the "Nobles Trail."
The information in this guide to the Nobles Trail is similar to the information Trails West has included in both the Guide to the California Trail and the Applegate Trail. Marker inscriptions, directions to the 56 Trails West Markers along that trail, 169 quotations excerpted from 24 emigrant diaries and journals, six unique maps that detail the Nobles Trail from Rabbit Hole Springs to the city of Shasta, California, and 12 supplemental Maps to help the traveler find all of the markers are included. There are two significant differences between the Noble Trail Guide and the two earlier ones. One is that we did not include photographs in the Nobles Guide. Second, the Nobles Guide, Interim Edition, is not the final guide to that trail. Trails West has decided that some of the markers need to be re-located and many of the marker inscription plates need to be changed. Wee feel these changes are necessary to better reflect the actual route of the trail and what the emigrants who used it said about their experiences. The work necessary to accomplish these goals will be done in the years 2007 and 2008. Following that, Trails West will write a final guide to the Nobles Trail.
