- The High Rock Desert & Playa
The Winnemucca Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management information about the Black Rock Desert and Playa. This site is a must if you are planning to visit the area.
One of the sections, titled "Permits, Fees, Limitations," states that "Special Recreation Permits are required from the BLM for competitive events, commercial recreational events, non-commercial or competitive large-scale events, and for all commercial photography or filming."
The portion of the Applegate-Lassen Trail that lies between Lassen Meadows (Rye Patch Reservoir) and Vya, Nevada is included in this NCA.

- High Rock Trekkers
The High Rock Trekkers sponsor an annual 4WD trip across the Applegate-Lassen Trail every July. heir web site provides information about that outing as well as other things of interest that might be encountered along this trail. A number of interesting links are also identified.
- Soldier Meadows Guest Ranch
Located in the heart of the Black Rock/HighRock Emigrant Trails NCA, this guest ranch offers the only lodgings in the area. The ranch is a working cattle ranch where guests are welcome to ride along with the cowboys. At the end of the day, guests can relieve sore muscles by soaking in the ranch's hot springs. And the food is great. A number of scheduled activities are offered.
- Friends of the Black Rock High Rock Canyon
This volunteer organization is concerned with protecting the greater Black Rock Desert and Playa plus the High Rock Canyon area. Included on their web site is a page devoted to safety. As stated at the top of this page, "Caution, There are nearly 100 ways to get seriously injured or die in the Black Rock Desert!" If you plan on visiting the area, you should look at what the Friends have to say about safety.
- High Rock Canyon National Historic Site
The Surprise California Field Office of the BLM sponsors a web page devoted to the High Rock Canyon National Historic Site. Some information is provided as is a link to the Office's Home Page. The Home Page provides links to National Conservation Area News, its Back Country Byway, and Back-Country Travel/Safety Tips.
